Juniata College offers both Computer Science and Information Technology programs. There are a couple of things that make our program unique.
First is the number of opportunities for hands-on experience students will recieve at every level in the program. Our campus technology services employ computer science and IT students to serve the needs of our campus - which means you can have a great work-study position that will help you to gain experience and will look great on your resume.
Students also have opportunities to gain experience off-campus. Students can work locally, through our Innovations for Industry program, or they can work further afield, even internationally! I can think of one student, in particular, who really took advantage of these opportunities: He spent the spring of his junior year working full-time for GM corporation, then moved to NYC to work for NBC/Universal for the summer before returning to campus his senior year, during which he continued to work for GM right from our campus!
Our program is very flexible (we ask 'how can we do this' rather then 'can we do this,' and it allows students to create some very unique opportunities, with the help of their professors and advisors.
Another factor that makes our program distinctive is the interdisciplinary approach to teaching computer science and IT. You will learn from professors who have a variety of educational specializations in addition to IT. This well-rounded approach prepares students for careers doing computer science and/or IT in many different types of organizations, and makes you a more marketable and more valuable future employee.
