About Amherst College
Diversity, defined in its broadest sense, is fundamental to Amherst's mission. The college enrolls students from nearly every state and from more than 40 countries, and for the past several years more than 40 percent of Amherst's students have been students of color. Since its founding, Amherst has remained one of the few truly need-blind colleges in the nation; students are admitted without regard to financial aid, and each admitted student is guaranteed financial aid equal to financial need. The college's financial aid packages are consistently the most generous in the nation, and among its peer universities and colleges Amherst has the most economic diversity. By any measure of accessibility and quality Amherst is consistently ranked among the top schools in the country. Its outstanding resources, dedicated faculty and rigorous academic life allow the college to enroll students with an extraordinary range of talents, interests and commitments.

| Dates |
Saturday September 21, 2013 |
| Description |
We believe that the best way for you to learn about our community is to visit the campus, talk with students and faculty, attend classes, and spend time in a residence hall. Up to 200 high school seniors will be selected for the Diversity Open House. Seventy-five percent of the students who attend one of the programs will choose to apply to Amherst, although you will be under no obligation to apply to Amherst if you choose to attend the program. We encourage you to submit a completed application by the priority deadline of August 1st. We will accept applications until we have filled both the September and October programs however; due to space we strongly encourage you to submit your application no later than August 15th. |
| Application Process |
A completed application should include a copy of your high school transcript or grade reports for your freshman, sophomore and junior years, any standardized test results and a short essay response. Those students admitted to the Open House, will receive a letter inviting them to attend the program. The selection committee will prioritize the invitation of students who demonstrate limited family financial resources, regardless of cultural background and under-represented cultural groups such as African- American, Hispanic/Latino American, Native American, and Asian-American backgrounds. Typically, the Admission Office will fund 100% of airline, bus, or train transportation costs for students visiting during the Open House Weekends. Some students who apply to the Open House will also receive a fee waiver for the Amherst College $60.00 application fee in order to encourage their applications to Amherst, regardless of whether they are invited to attend the Open House. You can find the online application here: https://www.amherst.edu/admission/diversity/divoh/divohapp |
