About Tufts University

Located on a grassy, suburban campus 7 miles from downtown Boston, Tufts is a university with an intimate scale and an international orientation.   With just over 5,000 undergraduates and more than 50 academic departments in the liberal arts and engineering, Tufts provides a progressive community that celebrates experiential learning exploration and activism.   Tufts supports students' desire to take intellectual risks and challenge conventional wisdom to solve complex problems and become active, intellectual, and global citizens.

Approximately 30% of the undergraduate population is from underrepresented ethnic groups.   Throughout the year, the Voices at Tufts program hosts prospective students who want to learn about the academic and social opportunities at Tufts and to take a glimpse of the eclectic and diverse Tufts community.

We are committed to meeting the full financial need of all students.

Event Name Women in Engineering at Tufts University (WIE)
Web Site http://admissions.tufts.edu/WIE
Dates Friday October 22, 2010
Description Diversity is one of the cornerstones of the educational mission of the School of Engineering (SOE), as well as of Tufts University as a whole. Students and faculty with different backgrounds and perspectives come together to collaborate on projects that make a positive impact on the world. The SOE has a strong history and enduring commitment to increasing the number of women and underrepresented groups among its students and faculty. For example, women currently account for approximately 30%, 26%, and 18% of the undergraduate students, graduate students, and full-time faculty, respectively.

The WIE program is an open house that will introduce you to the opportunities of the SOE as well as the community of women in the SOE at Tufts. At the WIE program you will meet female faculty, students and alumnae from across the SOE and hear from them what makes Tufts a dynamic place to study engineering. Tufts offers the breadth and flexibility of a liberal arts atmosphere coupled with the intellectual and technological depth of a world-class research institution. Faculty and students at Tufts engage in cross-disciplinary courses and research in areas as varied as edible optics, wind and solar power, bioinformatics, and soft bodied robots.

WIE presenters will include deans, faculty, students and alumnae who will share with you how Tufts School of Engineering educates engineering leaders who use technology to solve societal problems. You will also have the opportunity to tour engineering facilities, enjoy lunch on campus, and learn about admissions and financial aid at Tufts.

Application Process Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. We strongly encourage students and their families who plan to attend this program to pre-register.

If you cannot join us for WIE, consider visiting Tufts for Engineering Open House (EOH), a daylong immersion into the School of Engineering on September 24, October 8, 29, or November 5.
