About Carleton College

Carleton College, one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, is located 40 miles south of the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul (Minnesota). Our students are wicked smart and wildly passionate about a large variety of things, and they come to campus from all corners of the globe (our student body covers all 50 states and dozens of other countries). We value the entire student at Carleton--we are interested in what you will bring to class academically, but also in your life experiences and ultimate personal goals. Our hope is that we can simultaneously challenge and support you as we push you to become your best self here at Carleton.

Things to note:

- We enroll about 2,000 students each year; we are small by design. This helps us to ensure small class sizes, one on one time with professors, adequate resources for each student, etc.

- About 75% of our students participate in study abroad programs during their time on campus.

- We operate on a trimester system. Instead of two semesters, our students attend classes for three terms (each ten weeks long).

-  We meet 100% of demonstrated financial need for every admitted student. The average financial aid award at Carleton is over $40,000.

Falling for Carleton is a great time to see Carleton’s campus, especially for families just starting to learn about Carleton.  You'll be able to talk to current students and faculty members, learn more about the application process, and see what our campus and Northfield are all about. High school seniors who want to interview need to register online in advance.

This is an open house without a specific schedule: instead, we'll encourage you to look at the possible options available each day and craft a morning, afternoon, or full day that suits your interests.  Many events are repeated on both Thursday and Friday, and you can spread out your time across both days, or fit your visit into a single day.  We encourage all visitors to register in advance.
