About California Polytechnic State University

Cal Poly, located on the beautiful central coast of California, is a largely undergraduate four year university.  "Learn by Doing" is an essential quality of a Cal Poly education.  At Cal Poly, classroom instruction is complemented by practical, "hands-on" learning in the laboratory, the studio and in the field.

For the 18th year in a row, Cal Poly has been rated the best public-master's university in the West by U.S. News & World Report, in its 2011 America's Best Colleges guidebook.  Cal Poly offers over 60 undergraduate degrees in fields from liberal arts to engineering, agriculture to architecture and business to science and math.

Admission selection is competitive and all applicants must declare a major at the time of application.  Requirements: Strong College Prep Curriculum (e.g. Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate); Strong GPA; ACT or SAT I (math & reading scores only); Work experience/Extra-curricular Activities. Apply via http://www.csumentor.edu/.

Scholarship Name Scholarships at Cal Poly
Web Site http://www.ess.calpoly.edu/_finaid/types_aid/scholarships.htm
Application Deadline Wednesday March 2, 2011
Description Scholarships are normally awarded during Spring and Summer Quarters (April – August) for the following academic year. Recipients receive award notices that provide the scholarship amount, disbursement schedule and donor information. Recipients are required to thank their donor for the scholarship or award. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment to remain eligible for scholarship disbursements. Non-attendance results in cancellation or a prorated amount. Good academic standing is required. While applicants do not receive denial notices, scholarship applications remain active for the academic year. If a scholarship becomes available, a current applicant may be considered.
Application Process Generally, students do not need to complete a separate scholarship application. However, for need-based scholarships, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required. For priority consideration for financial aid programs and Cal Poly scholarships, complete the FAFSA by March 2. Scholarships can be specific to a major, a college, a particular interest or open to all majors. They are awarded each spring and through the summer for the following academic year.
