Description

The Workshop is an intensive four-week in-residence experience designed for high school students considering architecture as a course of study and a career as well as for developing a design portfolio. Students are presented an in-depth view of the study of and career in architecture through hands-on experience in studio exercises, projects and field trips. Activities cover design fundamentals (such as introducing light and shadow, space and sequence, texture, materiality and climate) as well as computer applications, structural engineering, and site and community planning. No previous experience with architecture, drafting or art is necessary. Exercises are lead by the Director, faculty of the College, and professional guests

Enrichment Program Name EPIC (Engineering Possibilities in College)

Description EPIC (Engineering Possibilities in College) is a one-week summer program for middle and high school students (7th-12th) to learn about engineering and experience hands-on labs in a university atmosphere. It's an opportunity for you, the student, to explore the different types of engineering available at Cal Poly and other universities. There will be three sessions of EPIC in 2013 on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo, California. Grades levels are based on which grade your student will be in when school begins in the fall.

Open House is an annual Cal Poly event that showcases the campus to admitted and current students, their supporters, alumni, and the San Luis Obispo community. The three-day event is the culmination of an entire year of hard work and dedication by a committee of student volunteers working under Student Life & Leadership's Orientation Programs, in collaboration with the community, student clubs, faculty, and staff.

Open House began in 1994 and has its roots in Poly Royal with the added Friday activities such as University Welcome, College Welcomes, Friday Nite Invite, and many more fun activities.

Cal Poly's Admitted Students' Preview Day is a great way to get to know the Cal Poly campus. Students and their supporters will have a chance to hear from President Jeffrey Armstrong; visit with college deans, faculty, and current students; discover the many available resources and take tours of the campus.

Saturday's events are open to the public. The day starts off with a parade that includes Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo organizations. After the parade, the Club Showcase begins. This includes demonstrations and concession booths representing more than 200 campus groups. There will also be a Kids' Fair with many kid- and family-friendly activities

Scholarships

Description Scholarships are normally awarded during Spring and Summer Quarters (April – August) for the following academic year. Recipients receive award notices that provide the scholarship amount, disbursement schedule and donor information. Recipients are required to thank their donor for the scholarship or award. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment to remain eligible for scholarship disbursements. Non-attendance results in cancellation or a prorated amount. Good academic standing is required. While applicants do not receive denial notices, scholarship applications remain active for the academic year. If a scholarship becomes available, a current applicant may be considered.
Application Process Generally, students do not need to complete a separate scholarship application. However, for need-based scholarships, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required. For priority consideration for financial aid programs and Cal Poly scholarships, complete the FAFSA by March 2. Scholarships can be specific to a major, a college, a particular interest or open to all majors. They are awarded each spring and through the summer for the following academic year.

Description Early Decision is an option offered to those first-time freshman applicants for whom Cal Poly is clearly their first choice. Applicants should have established strong and consistent academic records throughout secondary school and should have completed all the required standardized testing by October of their senior year.
Application Process  
  • The student must submit an electronic application, along with the required $55 application fee, by a final deadline of October 31st.
  • The student is notified of the admission decision by December 15th.
  • The student’s reply to an offer of admission by Cal Poly must be submitted electronically by January 15th.
