Opportunities at Member Institutions |
Have you enjoyed your science and mathematics classes
and thought they were interesting? Have you enjoyed
your laboratory classes and discovered that you had
a real talent for experimental science?
Have you ever thought about undergraduate research
but thought you were not capable of research? Many students
get the message that they are not capable of research.
Not true! You just need a professor who will encourage
undergraduate research!
Speak with your high school science teacher. He
or she will be able to provide some valuable insight
and might help you explore undergraduate research
opportunities. Contact the admissions staff at the member institutions
and ask them about undergraduate research opportunities.
When you visit the college/university ask to speak
with professors about their research. Ask the professors
about the projects they are currently working on.
Even if you are not majoring in their department,
professors would be happy to have you participate
in undergraduate research. Some colleges/universities
offer research opportunities in the freshman year!
Ask when you can begin research projects. When you speak with the professor ask about the
variety of ways that you can join the research team.
You can volunteer, be paid through work-study, or
apply for course credit for research.
