PREFACE Summer Program
PREFACE is a two-week, residential summer experience
for talented high school juniors from underrepresented
and under-served groups interested in pursuing a career
in engineering or technological professions. Participants
engage in activities that develop engineering principles
and problem solving skills, explore engineering disciplines,
and increase leadership skills and self-confidence.
Activities include Introduction to Manufacturing Processes,
Introduction to Electronics, computing, project competitions,
and field trips. This program is a residential program.
Application Process/Prerequisites:
Complete an application (essay, academic performance,
standardized test scores, HS transcript, counselor recommendation,
teacher recommendation) This is a highly competitive
program. Applicants must be entering the 12th grade,
September 2003. Selection is based on high school GPA,
rank in class, standardized test scores, quality of
essay, and quality of recommendations.
Fee (in 2001):
None - Corporate funding covers a participant's round
trip transportation to Rensselaer, materials and supplies,
fees, room and board for the two-week program. The only
cost to a participant is personal and miscellaneous
expenses.
