Surgeon or Work in Emergency Medicine

"I just wanted to know more about the medical field because I am a pre-med major and I am trying to pursue a career in medicene."

I am pleased to know of your interest in the medical field. Medicine provides a great blend of science and the ability to make a difference in patients' lives and in your community.

After college, doctors attend a 4 year medical program. This can be either allopathic (MD) or osteopathic (DO). During medical school, doctors choose one of about 33 specialties. After medical school, they enroll in a training program designed for their specialty, called a residency program. There is a lot of flexibility in medicine that will allow you to see a large variety of medical problems and patients. As a Family physician, I have delivered babies, taken care of pregnant moms, taken care of nursing home patients, treated patients in the hospital and ICU, performed minor surgical procedures, and provided care in the Emergency Department.

I am happy to provide further answers to your questions. What else do you want to know about becoming a doctor?
