| Anyone who has experienced the childlike wonder
evoked by observing or understanding something that
no one has ever observed or understood before will recognize
McClintock's enthusiasm. The pursuit of that experience
is one of the forces that keep researchers rooted to
their laboratory benches, climbing through the undergrowth
of a sweltering jungle, or following the threads of
a difficult theoretical problem. To succeed in research
is a personal triumph that earns and deserves individual
recognition. But it is also a communal achievement,
for in learning something new the discoverer both draws
on and contributes to the body of knowledge held in
common by all scientists.

| One of the decisions many college students struggle
with is whether or not to go to graduate school right
after college. Many students believe that furthering
their education will help improve their market value
in the workplace, while others desire to attend graduate
school to avoid entering the real world. Throughout
my four years at Missouri I grappled with this decision,
and I ultimately decided to work for a couple of years
and then head to graduate school.

| It's a tough time for America and for America's
workforce. We may be a little distracted and a lot frightened
by what we see and hear. But in order to stay successful
in the long-run, we can't overreact to the news. Just
because some companies are announcing downsizing, don't
assume you will be cut. Just the same, do not assume
that your supervisors know what you have accomplished,
what you are working on, or even what your primary responsibilities
entail. Most managers should be regularly reminded about
what you have achieved. This applies whether the company
has 100 employees or 10,000.

| To prepare effectively for the job search, you
need to know as much as possible about the organizations
that interest you. Knowing how to research companies
and organizations is crucial to a successful job-search
campaign. To tailor your resume and cover letter to
a particular position, and especially to prepare effectively
for an interview, you need to know as much as possible
about the company or organization.

by game developers and producers than ever before. There
has been a huge increase in interest over the past few
years on the part of both game developers and game players,
and I think the trend is only going to continue.

| For many seniors, the time leading up to college
graduation and the start of a first job is often chaotic
and stressful. You are trying to complete your college
career without too much of a senioritis meltdown while
dealing with the demands of job-hunting, interviewing,
and facing the reality of the end of schooling (at least
for the foreseeable future).

a world of new worries: finding a job, and then, keeping
it. Once they secure a job, they must deal with fitting
